Alma Steelworkers Meet Thursday to Review Tentative Agreement With Rio Tinto Alcan

ALMA, QC – Three membership meetings are scheduled for Thursday, July 5, in Alma to allow 780 locked-out smelter workers to review a tentative agreement negotiated Sunday by United Steelworkers (USW) Local 9490 and Rio Tinto Alcan.

The schedule for Thursday’s three union membership meetings is as follows:

- 8:00 a.m., for members of the Local 9490 bargaining unit representing hourly employees. Location: Delta Hotel in Jonquière, 2675 Royaume Boulevard.

- 2:00 p.m., for Local 9490 members who work in the pot lining centre. Location: Salle Jean-Marie Ouellette at Alma’s Secrétariat des Syndicats nationaux, 20 St-Joseph Avenue South.

6:00 p.m., for members of the bargaining unit representing the plant’s office workers. Location: Complexe Jacques-Gagnon, 100 St‑Joseph Avenue South.

Union representatives will not be commenting publicly on the tentative agreement prior to Thursday’s membership meetings.

A media briefing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday night, following the final membership meeting. The briefing will be held at the offices of USW/Syndicat des Métallos Local 9490, at 830 rue des Pins ouest, in Alma. The time of the media briefing will depend on the completion of the final membership meeting.
